I had the privilege of participating as a speaker in the Customs Policy Forum hosted in Indonesia, centered on the critical theme of “Enhancing Port Security through Risk-Based Management.” It was an honor to engage with fellow practitioners and academics to discuss how effective risk management and advanced technologies can enhance port security.
The forum, organized by the Polytechnic of State Finance STAN (PKN STAN), provided a vital platform for exploring how Customs administrations can better secure global supply chains. My contribution focused on the transformative power of data-driven strategies and the importance of maintaining a balance between trade facilitation and compliance.
Advanced Risk Management: Strategies for implementing robust, risk-based controls to enhance security while ensuring the smooth flow of trade.
Technological Integration: The role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data analytics in identifying high-risk shipments and detecting potential fraud.
Global Best Practices: Sharing insights from international standards and WCO initiatives designed for effective targeting and enforcement.
AI-Enabled Solutions: Discussing how machine learning models can classify commercial descriptions and flag suspicious patterns in Customs operations.
Participating in this forum was an inspiring experience that underscored the importance of collaboration in tackling global trade challenges. My sincere thanks to PKN STAN and the organizing team for the invitation, to the moderator for the excellent session management, and to my fellow speakers for the deeply insightful and engaging discussions.
